If you have a blue page background on your website - and somewhere on your site is, say, a white box with blue text in, you run the risk of having your site permanently banned from Google. Why? Because Google wrongly interprets this as an attempt to distort its listing... Because your text and page background are similar colors, it appears as if you are trying to hide text within your page to falsely influence its performance. Every image on your site needs an 'alt' tag (the text that appears in a yellow box when you hover over it with the mouse). The alt tag should describe what the image is - and contain relevant keywords. But beware of blitzing all your alt tags with the same keywords. Google tries to detect the context in which your image appears and assesses if the alt tag is appropriate. If it's not (or if Google suspects it's not) Your search- engine ranking can actually be penalized rather than improved.
